Recipe from Carmen Estep, a woman I met in an early childhood parenting group years ago. It has become our favorite sugar cookie, and a holiday tradition for our girls.

3/4 cup butter, softened 1 - 3 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened 1-3/4 cups confectioners sugar, sifted 1 egg 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 tsp. almond extract 2 cups unbleached flour 3/4 tsp. baking powder

Mix together all ingredients until well combined. Chill 2 - 4 hours. Roll out, cut, and place on cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 7 - 9 minutes.

ICING (my recipe): 1 stick butter, softened 2 cups confectioners sugar, sifted 1/2 tsp.almond extract 2 T. (more or less) almond milk (or regular milk) for moisture

Beat until smooth.
